Celebrating Volunteers’ Week: Meet Glenn, Supporting HOPE Rehabilitation

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we are proud to celebrate the incredible individuals who give their time, energy and compassion to support our services and local communities.

Volunteers make a vital difference across Care Plus Group. Whether they are providing encouragement, supporting wellbeing, or simply offering a friendly conversation, their contribution helps create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.

This week, we are delighted to spotlight Glenn, one of our dedicated volunteers supporting our HOPE Rehabilitation service.

Glenn volunteers within our HOPE Rehabilitation sessions, where he supports individuals attending the gym as part of their recovery and wellbeing journey.

His role includes helping people understand what activities they can safely take part in, supporting with forms, guiding, and encouragement our “Buddies” ensure everyone feels confident and comfortable within the space.

Just as importantly, Glenn offers something that cannot be measured on paper – connection. Through conversation and social interaction, he helps create a welcoming and encouraging environment where people feel supported, motivated and less alone.

Glenn’s journey into volunteering is deeply personal.

Having previously lived with COPD, he attended the HOPE Specialist service himself and experienced first-hand the care and support it provides. Inspired by the difference it made to his own life, Glenn wanted to give something back to others going through a similar experience.

With great respect for the team who supported him, he chose to volunteer so he could offer the same encouragement and reassurance that helped him on his own journey.

Now a familiar face at Kent Street, Glenn looks forward to attending and being part of the HOPE community each week.

For Glenn, one of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering is the social connection it brings.

He enjoys meeting new people, having conversations, and building relationships with those attending the sessions. These simple but meaningful interactions play a key role in helping individuals feel more confident and supported in their rehabilitation.

Glenn’s story highlights the powerful role volunteers play across our organisation.

By giving his time and sharing his lived experience, he helps to create a positive and supportive atmosphere where people can feel understood, encouraged and empowered to take steps towards better health and wellbeing.
