Meet Ann – a friendly face who brings warmth, kindness and community spirit to everything she does as a volunteer.
Ahead of Volunteers’ Week, we spoke to Ann about her volunteering journey and what inspires her to give her time to others.
After attending a falls clinic, Ann’s friendly and chatty nature was quickly recognised, and she was encouraged to get involved in volunteering to help welcome others into groups and activities.
Now, Ann helps out wherever she can, particularly supporting Sylvia with the chair-based exercise group in Immingham and many other community sessions.
When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, Ann’s answer was simple:
“All of it.”
Whether it’s washing up, making people feel welcome, chatting to others, or even baking snacks for the group every other week, Ann loves being part of bringing people together.
Ann also shared some wonderful advice for anyone thinking about volunteering:
“Get out there and do it, it makes you feel great.”
Outside of volunteering, Ann and two other ladies regularly meet for a cuppa and make a point of speaking to others they see on their outings, recognising that for some people, that conversation may be the only one they’ve had in days.
Ann truly believes that volunteering is not about what you give – it’s about what you get back.
Thank you, Ann, for your kindness, compassion and for helping create such welcoming communities every day.
