Julie Grant – Journey to success!

Julie first joined Employability Services when she was recruited as a Trainee Catering/Customer Service Assistant during the re-launch of The Galley Café.

Julie desperately missed working, however felt she had no choice but to leave her previous job of 20 years, after being assaulted by a customer. This caused Julie a great deal of anxiety about returning into the workplace and she lacked the confidence to apply for new positions. However, having been unemployed for several months, Julie ‘brushed herself off’ and was keen to move forward and rebuild a new career for herself.

Shortly after starting her assistant role, the Supervisory position became available and Julie was extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to demonstrate her skills and determination to develop her own career, by taking on this leading role.

The Galley Café has now gone from strength to strength and this has everything to do with Julie’s passion and determinism to ‘make it work’, developing new ideas and supporting others to share her passion also.

Employability Support Officer; Tracy Chaplin says that “Julie is definitely a people person and engages with everyone she meets – everyone just loves her!”

Julie simply says for herself that she has “enjoyed regaining her confidence and having this opportunity to get back into work…she loves her job and that it’s great to be active again.”
