Learning Disability Week – Meet Brendan

Brendan Finds His Place

A journey toward independence and belonging

Brendan has recently taken an exciting step in his life, moving into supported living after a short period back at home with his mum. From the very beginning, Brendan was clear about his goal—he wanted to live in a Linkage house and build a more independent future.

During his transition, Brendan was referred to Care Plus Group’s Intensive Support Team (IST), who supported both him and his mum through a period of uncertainty and anxiety. While his first supported living placement didn’t go as hoped, Brendan remained determined. With the backing of his family and continued community support, he stayed focused on his goal.

While waiting for a suitable opportunity, Brendan attended Linkage Choices Day Services and continued to develop his skills. His determination never wavered—he was committed to living independently and sharing a home with other young people.

That opportunity finally arrived when Linkage opened a new provision. With support from Focus, Brendan moved into his own place at Abbey House. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength. He is building his independence, enjoying the support around him, and actively engaging in his community—living the life he had always envisioned.

What people are saying

Brendan: “I like having my own place and I like my staff team.”

Brendan’s Mum: “I’m so happy he is happy and is living the life he wanted.”

Matt, Registered Manager at Linkage: “Brendan is making brilliant progress with his independence skills and loves to put a party on

in the communal lounge for everyone to enjoy a bit of karaoke.”

A positive outcome

The Intensive Support Team shared how rewarding it has been to see Brendan settled and thriving:

“It’s fantastic to see Brendan where he wants to be. His anxiety has reduced significantly, and he is now ready to be discharged from the Intensive Support Team.”
