Cancer Champions Training

Free Cancer Champions Training – North East Lincolnshire

Become a Cancer Champion by taking part in one of our awareness sessions!

No skills, qualifications or specialised knowledge of cancer is required in our Cancer Champions Training. Our awareness sessions teach people about the key facts, statistics, symptoms, and NHS Screening Programmes linked to a number of cancers.

Cancer Champions are equipped with the knowledge needed to raise awareness about cancer, engage in conversations that could help to reduce the risk of cancer and encourage early detection of cancer – when treatment could be simpler and more successful.

We are thrilled to offer our free bespoke training for as little as two hours of your time, right at your venue!

Early Detection Saves Lives…  would you be able to spot the possible early signs of cancer in a friend, relative or colleague?

We have over 1,000 Cancer Champions within North East Lincolnshire, so join us and help encourage early diagnosis and improve the outcomes for people within our community.

Delivered by Lisa Hassell

We have received some fabulous feedback, as well as a card & gifts. So far in 2024, we have introduced new props and games and feel this has helped take a subject that is very much a taboo still, and helped change peoples views, by focusing on ‘early detection saving lives’.

I look forward to every session that’s organised, meeting new people and sharing the vital information.

Lisa started working for CPG in 2012 for the Drug & Alcohol drop-in service. Whilst working there, she attended the Cancer Champions training course in 2013 at Second Avenue Resource Centre. It was suggested that she attended the course – she felt it “sounded interesting” but was originally hesitant due to the sometimes depressing nature of the topic. She attended and came away feeling glad she had. She learnt about the signs and symptoms of different cancers and developed a lot of confidence in the subject.

In 2015, Lisa joined the Health & Wellbeing Collaborative as an Administrative Assistant. She started set up the rooms for the training and put the resources together. Doing this and her role within the Collaborative, she gained further knowledge with regards to cancer, but kept fairly to the side of the training. At the end of 2023, Lisa was approached by her manager, Rachel, and asked if she would take over the delivery of the course and take it mobile, delivering this onsite to different organisations/businesses.

She now delivers this training regularly and feels fully confident in her delivery, receiving a lot of positive feedback.
