“I feel Welcome and Part of their Team.” – Anthony’s Story

Anthony, with some support from Employability Services, successfully gained a placement at Grimsby Crematorium doing something he loves.

Anthony is a student from Grimsby College and expressed his interest towards working outdoors. He has a passion for building bird houses in his spare time and enjoys working outside. He was interested in gaining work experience within grounds maintenance and was set to develop these skills.

He was referred to Employability Services who provided him with support and guidance for his 7 month Supported Internship at The Grimsby Crematorium. He has been assigned a Job Coach, who has been attending placement with him whilst he builds knowledge and experience.

During Anthony’s time, so far at the Crematorium, his confidence has improved massively, and he is an extremely motivated worker. It is evident that he has natural talent and passion for outdoor working, which he shows through completing tasks to a high standard.

We asked Anthony about what he thought of this experience. He said:

“I enjoy coming to work experience as it is something different for me to do. The staff make me feel welcome and ‘part of their team’, which is a nice feeling. My Job Coach also helps me feel comfortable in the environment I am in.

“I’m excited for the summer months as I will be able to use more power tools and possibly drive the digger!”

Aaron Parsons, Anthony’s supervisor at the Crematorium, commented on his time with Anthony. He said:

“He is doing really well so far. He is also beginning to display more confidence when communicating with staff members.”

Evie Hoggins, Anthony’s Job Coach also commented. She said:

“I believe that Anthony has progressed massively since he first began his Supported Internship. He is more than capable of completing all tasks and shows great strength when doing so. He has so much potential. I believe that once the Supported Internship has finished, he will have gained an insight into working life as well as gaining confidence and experience to prepare him for his future.”
